Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Our mission is to provide aid and sanctuary to abused, neglected, abandoned or donated horses that come to us in need. Work with law enforcement and other agencies in their efforts to rectify situations in which horses are in peril. Provide horses in our Sanctuary with needed medical care, proper nutrition and a health plan to restore them physically and mentally for a new life. Continue educational and fundraising efforts to both help us support our rescue efforts and to promote awareness of issues involving neglect and abuse in our area. During their rehabilitation, horses will learn to begin to trust once again by living in a sanctuary free of fear, hunger and human caused pain. Once rehabilitated, we will strive to find them a special home with people who will give them a new life where they will thrive with loving care and can live their life with dignity. We believe that by providing a network of support and basic equine educational resources for humans, we can avoid the unnecessary suffering and unfortunate fate that many horses endure. We want to do more than care for the horses who are suffering. . . we want to find a way to break the cycle of abuse and neglect! Together, we will make a difference in the life of a horse!

Results: MFMN was established as a non-profit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization in 2011 when Connie Hendrix and Donna Ogle, who had been rescuing and sheltering horses using their own funds, realized that they needed public support in order to continue to help reduce the suffering of the ever increasing number of neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses. MFMN does not discriminate based on age, breed, health or ride-ability of the horses it accepts, but rather, helps all to live a good life, or sometimes pass away with dignity. Since 2011 the shelter has taken in over 350 horses and had 184 adoptions. They work with law enforcement to help fight neglect and abuse and they are accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. The organization has minimal administrative costs, no paid employees and is a 100% volunteer organization. They also facilitate a network of foster homes in the surrounding area that also provides food and shelter to abandoned and unwanted horses. The organization is funded by contributions from individuals. All donations are tax deductible.
