Mission: Missouri River Relief was founded to engage individuals and communities along the Missouri River in the exploration, enjoyment, restoration, and care of the river through education, stewardship, and recreation.

Results: Since 2001 we have removed over 1,013 tons of trash from 1,399 miles of the Missouri River with the help of over 29,500 volunteers and have connected over 30,500 students and teachers to the Missouri River through our place-based and experiential education programs.

Target demographics: Connect individuals and communities to the Missouri River through education, stewardship and recreation

Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2021 we removed 42 tons of trash with 1,296 volunteers and enagaged over 4,152 students in "deep and sticky" Missouri River education. We also connected over 1,000 paddlers to the Missouri River through river recreation.

Geographic areas served: The Missouri River from Yankton, SD to the confluence in St. Louis, MO.

Programs: large-scale equipment and volunteer-based river cleanups, robust education programs that engage participants’ innate sense of wonder and natural curiosity to explore the Missouri River through place-based programs that are interdisciplinary in nature and experiential in character and recreational opportunities including the longest continuous river race in the world, the MR340.
