It opens when it's hot and closes when it's not.If you don't know how to replace one of these, look up where it is on your motor. If you're comfortable with that, buy this, a gasket that's specific to your vehicle, some antifreeze/coolant (they're the same thing, but we tend to refer it more often as coolant here in the desert), and paper towels.These wear out, so it'll probably have to be replaced at some point, and this is a very basic repair you can do in your driveway/apartment parking lot that'll save you money instead of taking it to a shop.
