Mission: Muslim American Society of Minnesota seeks to move people and nurture lifelong, God-centered agents of change. Focusing on personal development of individuals, MAS MN promotes active involvement in communities by providing opportunities for community service, interfaith initiatives, youth programs, and civic engagement. MAS MN operates 4 Masjids (Islamic Centers) and organizes the Minnesota Muslim Convention. MAS MN is also much more than a religious organization; it is a community organization committed to making Minnesota a better place for all Minnesotans. MAS MN provides social services such as clinic and food shelves. It is a leader in interfaith dialogue, as co-organizer the Taking Heart Ramadan Iftar Open House program and the Rabbi Imam Round Table. MAS MN engages the Muslim community in public policy and government affairs. It organizes the annual Muslim Day at the Capitol. MAS MN does not discriminate against anyone in our community and programs are available to anyone interested. With our wide variety of programs, we serve women, men, children, youth, young adults, families and seniors. Some in our community believe we only serve those who are Muslim, this couldn't be farther from the truth. Through referrals from our Christian and Jewish partners along with local schools and social service organizations, we are able to help a full cross-section of those from our community who are in need.

Results: The number of Muslims in Minnesota is estimated to be at more than 150,000.Of this population, the majority are of East African descent coming from Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya. This makes up the largest group of immigrants and refugees in the state. MAS MN consistently conducts outreach to this community in order to understand their needs and respond to changes impacting them. Through our community outreach and organizing, we have lifted up the voice of traditionally underrepresented individuals in Minnesota. We are providing the information, training, and access to people who want to make a difference in their community.
