Mission: Nabhi Christian Ministries (NCM) is a 501(c)3 faith-based nonprofit established in 1996.NCM conducts services of worship, provides for the Christian Education and pastoral care of its members and other individuals, and organizes benevolent efforts that seek to help alleviate deprivation and suffering of people in its community, including the poor, distressed or underprivileged. Through a Mission dedicated to enhancing impoverished communities by reducing havoc and cultivating healthy environments through a provision of services that mentor, train, and develop quality citizens of all ages.

Results: Last year, NCM served 617 low-income individuals living in Allegheny County with an annual operating budget just under $180,000 and the help of 77 members, sponsors, small grants, partners, 60 skilled volunteer staff and 11 board members. 98% served were resilient African Americans women who possessed strengths that assisted them in recovering from negative experiences:During COVID-19, NCM pivoted ongoing efforts in new ways that were never imagined to best address the urgent community needs created by the pandemic including cooking, serving and buying food and distributing over 1,550 food boxes, hand sanitizers, cleaning products and hygiene essentials to reduce food insecurity and the spread of the coronavirus. Processed 307 hardship applications resulting in $75,000 in utility grants to avoid shutoffs and terminations, provided 57 phone counseling sessions to help reduce stress and anxiety, engaged 300 families in safe fun activities to help reduce impacts of social isolation, distributed 431 new coats, school supplies, toys and face masks to students to keep them warm through cold-winter months, jumpstart their education, bring holiday cheer and reduce the coronavirus spread, helped a local single mom financially to avoid eviction and helped with furnace heating repairs for a local grandmother raising 5 minor children in the cold of winter during the pandemic. Since 1996, NCM has provided spiritual fulfillment, resolved conflict and transformed lives for over 10,900 single moms with minor children, processed over 1,100 utility hardship applications that obtained over $305,000 in utility grants to restore or prevent shut-offs and/or termination of gas, electricity and water services for limited-income single moms, senior citizens, individuals and families, distributed more than 6,400 backpacks, books and school supplies, 7,500 new winter coats, hats, socks and toys, provided case-management and counseling services for more than 1,000 families, provided arts, crafts and other forms of recreational bonding for over 7,300 youth and families, distributed free tickets to low-income kids, families, elderly and veterans for experiences in arts & culture, education & STEM, sports and family entertainment valued over $675,000 and publicly honored 140 exceptional community role models. NCM has been recognized eight times by the United States Congress, State of PA, Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh for its outreach efforts for improving Pittsburgh neighborhoods and reducing gang violence; for appreciation of dedication, enthusiasm, cooperation and tireless community work; for service and civic contribution to the City of Pittsburgh; for tireless work and effective leadership towards the goals of making Pittsburgh a more peaceful and loving place; and for all its efforts in helping so many of those in need of aid in the city.
