Causes: Mental Health

Mission: NAMI Davidson Co. strives to improve the lives of persons with the lived experience of a mental health issue and their loved ones through innovative and effective support, education and advocacy programs. We shine light down a dark path to help people find their way into a "new normal".

Results: - 90% of people attending our 8-session caregiver's class report they are better able to communicate and understand a loved one with mental health issues and have a reduction of crisis in the home. Over 250 people annually attend our stigma-busting presentations. Evaluations from each presentation show that at least 85% of attendees have learned something new about mental health, understand that mental health is part of whole health and are more willing to engage someone with a mental health issue

Target demographics: People of all ages and stages who are impacted by mental health issues like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, OCD, general anxiety disorder, PTSD and more. We provide support, education and advocacy to people with direct lived experience and to their families, loved ones and community members.

Geographic areas served: The Greater Nashville Area, Tennessee

Programs: NAMI Davidson Co is the direct provider of mental health support, education, advocacy and awareness services in the Greater Nashville Area. With the pandemic we quicklly pivoted our four free, peer-led support groups for people with lived experience and caregivers to an online format. We also took our monthly Caregiver Primer online and are providing topical public education opportunities. Awareness activities continue upon request from such places as local chambers of commerce, the VA , and churches.
