Mission: NAMI Western Carolina is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. We recognize that the key concepts of recovery, resiliency, and support are essential to improving the wellness and quality of life of all persons affected by mental illness. Mental illnesses should not be an obstacle to a full, meaningful life. The purposes of the affiliate are to (1) provide support to family members and peers, (2) serve as a center for the collection and dissemination of information about mental illness, (3) foster public education, (4) develop coping skills for families and consumers, (5) advocate, and (6) aid community support services.

Target demographics: individuals and families affected by mental illness.

Geographic areas served: Buncombe, Madison, Mitchell, and Yancy counties

Programs: Connection groups for those with a mental health and/or substance use issue. Family/Caregiver groups for anyone supporting a person living with a mental health issue.
