Got this to send to our grandson in California.Kit was decent, but the instructions were not done very well.. anyway, I got it put together (I was a master auto mech for 40 years, so I could figure it out), started to run it.. the motor rotated, but the gears in the electric motor setup, were stripping once per revolution. So since I knew I could prob figure it out, I took it apart and saw the shaft was slightly bent, I straightened it, and that fixed it.I also added a micro on/off switch to the battery box, since they have no on/off switch..if you have some mechanical aptitude, you can do this, but I just wanted people to be aware.

Spent hours trying to get it to work. I know, part of the fun until it turns into frustration. Spent weeks on it and we are close but still can't get it to stay levitated but for a split sec.

I purchased this to use as part of my grandson's schooling during COVD shut down. We did our own homeschooling on top of their Zoom classes. They loved it.

Like others, I own the original Levitron from the 1990's. If you don't have the patience to learn, through trial and error how to operate the toy, it's not worth it. Others have left good directions on how to use the toy. However, expect it will take you an hour or two (recommend doing this 15 minutes at a time) and when you move it to a different table / desk, it can take up to 15 minutes to readjust. Fortunately, the weight of the magnet is related to sea level, so as long as your sea level hasn't changed, you won't have to readjust the magnet weight when you move it.The maximum time I have been able to get it to stay in the air was about 1 minute 40 seconds. This is much shorter then the Levitron and the reason is that the magnets are less powerful and therefore the top weighs less, which, ironically, means it spends less time in the air. That said, the Levitron used wedges to change the sides of the platforms which was much more difficult and resulted in it getting off balance constantly from just the magnet landing or a small bump to the platform. Also, the Levitron was much more expensive even back in the mid 1990's.If you can find the Levitron, get it, but only after learning on this toy which is much easier to use.Highly recommend IF you have the patience to learn how to get it to work.

The material the brick is made of is super fine dust which flies all of the place and lingered in the air when it is hit and was irritating to us. Whats it made of, who knows. is it made from whatever goes industrial byproduct? I wondered. As we pounded the brick I couldn't help but doubt any grossly overpaid grandma at Smithsonian homesteading at desk for the last 35 years at a do nothing job in DC has any real clue what is happening in some third world factory. Thats why I regretted the purchase. No instructions were included either.

My grand son loves the archialogical digs. He is 10 and this was probably the simplest one he has done, he prefers more of a challenge but he did like it.

I can only judge by my 5 years old grandson, but he loves these things. It kept him busy digging for hours and then he still had the Dino to put together. Really nice set, I do recommend it.

My 7 and 4 year old had an absolute blast digging for their bones. It can take awhile but that was great for a longer project for them. They never got tired of digging. If you do need to go faster a real hammer sid speed up the process at the end for my youngest.

This was a great set! It was a little dusty but that is to be expected with something like this. My 6 year old daughter sat for over an hour and worked on it (she never sits still that long)! She found all the bones and we got to put her t-Rex together by the end of the day.

LOVED THE IDEA OF THESE FOR MY GRANDKIDS, BUT HARD FOR THEM TO CRACK OPEN. HAD TO ASSIST, THEY HAD FUN ANYWAY EVENTHOUGH IT WAS DIFFICULT. HAD TO GET A SMALL HAMMER BECAUSE THE ONE THAT COMES WITH IT DOESN'T REALLY WORK WELL. ALL THINGS CONSIDERED IT WAS FUN TO DO WITH MY GRANDKIDS
