No problem with leaves in tea if you don't fill it to the max, a lil hard to get the leaves out, but running it under the faucet helps get the stubborn ones easy. Wish the guard pieces were a little stronger so they'd actually sit on the rim of my mug, but it's a nice geeky gift for the tea lover in your life
