Mission: The mission of New Mexico Legal Aid, Inc. (NMLA) is to be the voice, defender and advocate for poor people who are seeking justice in all forums, particularly in the communities in which they live. NMLA is committed to help poor people in their struggle to access to food, shelter, security, and to preserve their unique cultural heritages.
Target demographics: Low-income New Mexicans gain access to justice
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 13,000 New Mexicans
Geographic areas served: Civil legal advocacy
Programs: Advice, brief services, self-help resources and full representation in some cases in family, consumer, housing and public benefits law. In addition, NMLA has seven projects targeting specific populations including victims of domestic violence, rural residents, migrant farmworkers, Native Americans, veterans, acequia communities, and homeowners in danger of foreclosure.
