Mission: New Mexico Wildlife Center connects people and wildlife for an abundant tomorrow. This means that we care for wildlife and work to help people understand how we can create a better future for all species, including humans. Founded in 1986, the Center is permitted by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish , US Fish and Wildlife Service, and US Department of Agriculture to rehabilitate all native New Mexico wildlife and to provide wildlife education to the public. Funded solely from private sources, our activities bring people closer to native New Mexico wildlife, their habitats, and conservation efforts.

Results: We treat around 1,000 wild animals a year in our hospital, including over 120 different species. We provide education to over 5,000 students and the general public in a normal year. During the months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have provided dozens of virtual education presentations to schools and individuals using our ambassador animals through social media and live video calls.

Target demographics: New Mexico's children and adults

Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 2,000 children and adults with wildlife education presentations and visits to our center. We also helped injured and orphaned wildlife to return to the wild; over 60% of patients that survived the first 24 hours were returned to their homes in nature.

Geographic areas served: Northern New Mexico and provide services to New Mexicans and out-of-state visitors

Programs: We have a wildlife hospital which takes in sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife from across the state. We treat everything from hummingbirds to reptiles to elk and deer fawns. Our facility has a full surgical unit, x-ray and necessary rehab cages/facilities. Our other programs provide wildlife education to thousands of school children and the general public by introducing them to resident ambassador animals, facts about their species, and conservation and habitat concerns.
