Mission: New River Abortion Access Fund operates a confidential helpline that provides direct financial assistance and practical support (rides to the clinic, gas money, hotel stays, meals, childcare, etc) to people seeking abortion care in Southwest Virginia and Appalachia. NRAAF is dedicated to ensuring that all people have access to safe, compassionate abortion care regardless of income level, race, gender, location, ability, sexual orientation, or immigration status.

Results: Between July 1,2021 and June 30,2022, NRAAF received 1908 requests for support and pledged a total of $225,504 to help 928 people pay for their abortions. Over $7,000 went towards associated travel expenses.

Target demographics: people who need or want abortions

Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year we were able to fund 49% of our callers with an average pledge of $243 per caller.

Geographic areas served: We fund abortion in Southwest Virginia and surrounding Appalachian communities

Programs: providing direct financial assistance, transportation, gas money, lodging, meals, childcare; empowering those who are directly affected; community/movement building; leadership development; hosting film screenings and discussion panels to reduce stigma and educate the local community; collaboration with other abortion funds, justice movements, & allie organizations
