I bought this roller because it is the exact same roller my fitness center provides ... and my trainer recommended I only purchase a soft foam roller.Out of the box it seems somewhat firm (I suppose the one at my fitness center has seen LOTS of use), but I have nothing to compare it to. It is not uncomfortable and I wouldn't consider it hard.Other reviewers reported a bad smell from the roller after being wrapped in plastic, but I did not find that to be the case with mine.I did find it to be a bit pricey for a foam roller, but it is good quality. I am overall pleased with my purchase.

Ive done a lot of physical therapy and pilates in my life and this is the best foam roller Ive ever used. Its a very progressive foam that is soft and forgiving on the outside and then is more solid inside. The foam doesnt dent and instantly goes back to its proper shape. My only suggestion would be that it be a few inches longer for doing exercises where you have to lay on it lengthwise.

This roller is medium soft density, which relieves tight muscles on my back. My physical therapist approved this roller as well! Try it you will like and agree.
