Updated Used these again on a long range day. Battery lasted all day and I was glad to have them so I could wear a boonie hat in the hot sun. Only complaint was when a phone call was received my iphone would not default the audio to the headset, even though it was paired. I believe the below mentioned crackling with the Tactical Sound is from the headset not having a foam windscreen over the mic like other over the ear devices have. The crackling sound from the breeze was minimized by turning the Tactical Sound down to a lower setting.-These worked great on the range, even having enough noise cancellation for a 12GA. Was able to easily carry on conversations. Perfect for a wide brimmed hat where muff style ear protection wouldn't work. For other applications not so much. With constant noise from an ATV or chain saw the noise cancellation was jumpy and weird. Also wind noise when riding the ATV gave a weird crackling sound. With the Tactical Sound control turned all the way down this solved the crackling and jumpiness. Bluetooth works well for music.

Took a bit to get the fit right, but once I did these sealed out virtually all noise till you turn them on and activate the pass through. I really like being able to dial in or out the amount of outside noise. Loud noises are immediately muted, like gun shots which is primarily why I purchased these. But the sound quality is decent enough for them to be used for music or podcasts ina pinch (when not at the range) so it makes these a lot more useful than previous range safety gear.

If you are going to use these for shooting, you still should wear earmuffs if you are shooting 308 or larger.

Overall, I like the product. The combo of a headset that I can use day-in and day-out for music and phone calls, plus for use while I'm hunting to protect my hearing is really convenient. The noise cancelation works pretty well when you have the right foam tips in and have them inserted correctly. The one complaint I have is with the sound amplification (I think the term they use is attenuation?) while I'm hunting in breezy conditions.I bought these primarily to upland bird/rabbit hunt and protect my hearing, while still being able to hear my surroundings, as I hunt without a dog and key-in on animals flushing from cover. In calm conditions, I'm able to maintain situational awareness and keep track of where sounds are coming from. However, when the breeze picks up, just to like 5-8 mph winds (a calm breeze down here in New Mexico...) the microphone picks up the wind way more than I think it should and causes the noise attenuation to cut in and out, causing me to lose some of my situational awareness. I've missed the sound of several rabbits flushing and wasn't able to react in time, when I think I would have been able to react in time normally (but would be at risk of damaging my hearing if I'd have taken a shot). I'm going to keep trying them to see how they perform in other situations, but the wind issue is a bit of a problem, especially for a western upland hunter.

These are not $1,000 ears so temper expectations accordingly.Pros:- unit is compact and comfortable- controls are simple, intuitive, and easy to use- good noise cancellation while shooting IF the ear tips fit properly- very good binaural sound quality when conversing or listening for critters while huntingCons:- insufficient protection when shooting if the ear tips do not fit well, as happened for me. I called the mfgr and they immediately sent alternatives to try. They also indicated that tips made by Comply are compatible with this unit and may be available in more sizes.- lots of hiss when amplification is turned up- near constant clicking noise if there's anything more than a light breeze. Mfgr is aware of this issue.- unit automatically attempts Bluetooth pairing on power-on and there's no way to disable this feature.- manual font is impossible small to read if you have old eyes, even w/ cheaters. It's also rather skimpy on details.Overall I'm satisfied with the unit and will be trying to pair it up with custom earmolds for better hearing protection.

First the good. The Bluetooth connection to an iPhone is nice and stable, and the sound quality of streamed music, and phone calls is very good. A little bad, the foam ear buds can be a bit uncomfortable if you don't get them seated just right, however once you do get them seated properly they offer excellent hearing protection to loud noise. The feature that allows you to turn on the external microphone is somewhat useful, however the sound quality is tinny. I use these daily at work to dampen noise, and still be able to communicate without pulling out the ear plugs. It works to a degree, however if there is noise coming from all directions, the external mic is susceptible to just amplifying all that noise and missing the speech. The battery life is stellar, I work a 10 hour shift, and often have these turned on and in my ears for up to 9 hours if the shop is noisy, and the battery lasts all day without a problem. Usually those 9 hours would including streaming music, using the external mic for conversation, and some phone conversations, so they definitely aren't in idle mode much of the time. The cord that connects the earbuds together is for me, just right. Not so long that they are constantly pulling out of my ears or getting wound up in a collar, and not so short as to put too much weight on my ears. The quality of the overall construction does seem to be a bit, well, cheap. However time will tell on that, so far they have been used an average of 30 hours a week for a month now--killing noise while being able to listen to a book or music is awesome--without any bits falling off or breaking. They do come with a nice carrying case, and while its a bit bulky, I find I use it daily to protect the earbuds while not in use.

Damn those Louds noises that sneak up and rattle your eardrums. Sometimes you need bare hearing so you can be aware of conversations in a loud environment. Earplugs worn all the time can be a hazard as much as they help. This headset is a great idea, they don't make the grade of truly professional-quality but are worth the money at this point. The foam inserts block grinders, chop saws, the problem with the provided plugs, when you squeezed them down, to insert in your ear canal they expand back to fast to get them in there first. This can make an improper seal. Wich takes several atempts to get them right which is a time nuisance. You can adjust the volume so you can hear what is going on around you. I have been in the trade 27 yrs and I suffer from tinnitus and they dont irritate my ears drums. The music must be kept low but audible and the sound quality is sufficiant to enjoy your music while keeping your 360 awareness. And you dont have to worry about those awkward moments when the saftey guy asks you a question and you can answer him while the band plays on. I would pay 200 dollars for a real qality set. However these are workable, and I Will Not be Returning them. The batter lasts me 8 hrs with no problem. Hopefully we will go to 10s or 12s then put em to the test. IBEW 518 D949354

So, because of my work I'm around loud explosions and gunshots rather regularly. And I understand the absurdity of this, because really no electronic hearing protection is going to do a great job by itself blocking the rock-your-world percussion of an 84mm recoilless rocket, you're going to want to double up with foamies, which you can't do with these. As it is. After standing in considerable close proximity (2-30 ft) to about 6 of those rockets going off, they kept working! I know, not the greatest endorsement in the world. I would say that these are probably perfect for a normal day at a civilian range, which I haven't had since 2020 lol. Ah, the ability to use Bluetooth and have them double as ear protection is awesome. Helping my students achieve battlesight zero while jamming to Led Zeppelin made the 4 hour session go so much easier.

2021Sept20 Update: Contacted ISOtunes about the issue, they sent me a replacement immediately after verifying some info. Customer support was awesome, hoping I had a fluke.Original: Went with this rather than Axil due to what I thought was a sturdier design, but it looks like it falls apart extremely easily. This was never thrown around, and was only used at the range where it was required to sit to shoot. If they can make it sturdier, it's not a bad ear pro; pretty comfortable and does a decent job at protecting my ears. Bluetooth volume is loud enough (I haven't had the need to max it out), and if need be you can further block outside noise.

Even the smallest plugs feel very thick and scratchy in my ears. Very uncomfortable when wearing for hours at a time. As plugs they work very well, just like having normal in ear soft plugs. When I turn the Bluetooth on it connects and does well passing the sound through. Conversations sound very clear. I was not able to test with gun shots but I wear ear plugs frequently for my job because I work around machinery. These are NO GOOD for blocking out machinery! No matter the setting of background noise it creates a humming in the ear that gives me a headache. I like the idea and this is a good start but it still needs some work.

These are awesome for loud environments. The problem I am having is the right ear bud is having so crackling noise from it and it's really annoying. Don't know if I just got a bad pair or what but I don't know if I would recommend these to friends. And after a while it starts to hurt my ears.

I shoot for a living, and wearing standard muffs all day usually leads to crushing headaches. I went in search of an alternative ear pro and ended up checking out this form factor. I bought AXILs at the same time as the ISO Tunes Sport. I will be keeping the ISO Tunes based on these factors:1. Build quality: AXIL Wires are thin, and the earpiece wires can be easily bent and it's hard to keep them in place. ISO Tunes wires are thicker, and the earpiece wires are semi-rigid.2. Earpieces: The AXIL earpieces are too short for hearing protection. Also, several of them seemed like they were melted when I took them out of the package. ISO earpieces have plastic inserts which actually thread-on to the stem.3. Controls: AXIL has controls on both sides, which makes it a bit confusing. ISO just has everything on the right side, and is intuitive like my non-hearing protection ear buds.4. Magnets: AXIL doesn't have magnets in the earpieces to keep them around your neck; ISO does.5. Sound quality: I tested both with live fire, music, and phone calls. ISO isn't high fidelity by any means, but the sound quality is better than AXIL with more range. AXIL can be set to a higher volume for enhancing hearing than the ISO.
