Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: The oregon humane society's mission is to foster an environment of respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals through education, legislation and leadership; to take care of the homeless, to defend the abused, and to fight with unrelenting diligence for the recognition of the integrity of all animals.

Direct beneficiaries per year: OHS adopted out 12,062 pets in 2018

Programs: For more than 150 years, the Oregon Humane Society has been sheltering homeless animals, fighting cruelty and neglect, improving laws that protect animals and punish offenders, and working to build a caring, compassionate community in Oregon. OHS is the largest humane society in the Northwest, and adopts more animals from its Portland shelter than any other single-facility shelter on the West Coast — finding homes for more than 11,000 pets each year. OHS puts no time limits on how long animals remain at the shelter — a pet stays available for adoption for as long as needed to find a loving home. OHS is a private organization not affiliated with any other local or national organizations and is not funded by tax dollars. Our work is made possible only by the generosity of donors.
