It's good quality Barley. Nice and fresh! Barley has more firm texture than oatmeal, which tends to be slimy. Barley is cooling whereas oatmeal is heating (according to Ayurveda and Chinese medicine.

I love that I can cook these barley flakes in less than 20 minutes. Normal pearled barley has to be soaked overnight, or boiled for at least an hour to be edible.

I bought this to cook for my dog. She has Addison's disease a rare condition for dogs. I wanted to make sure she has the best nutrition and Yupik barley fit the bill for one of the ingredients. I've used other Yupik products and they were quality. I've tried this barley in a few dishes for myself and really enjoyed the flavor and texture. This barley is easy and fast to prepare. It seems to go pretty far as well

This makes a barley cereal, I guess something similar to old fashioned porridge, but with the benefits of how filling and healthy barley is. I cooked it with walnuts and some spices and it tasted very good.

I make a mixture for my breakfast that is supposed to be excellent for controlling cholesterol. It contains oats, barley, wheat germ, wheat bran, flax meal and raisins. I had been cooking barley. Cooked barley does not keep well before it goes bad. These flakes are so very much easier to deal with. I mix them with the oats in a container, then use just like you would oatmeal. I don't cook my mixture. I just let the liquid (milk or kefir) soften the oats and barley.

These barley flakes are thicker than others I have used, and heavier than oat flakes which is expected since the seed is much thicker than an oat flake. There are no directions for cooking on the bag, but experienced cooks should be able to figure out how to cook it. The price is reasonable for the the amount, but I would advise anyone not experienced with cooking barley flakes to try a smaller amount first.
