Mission: The Ovarian Cancer Connections (OCC) mission is to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, educate the community on the early warning signs of this disease. Additionally, the OCC provides financial assistance to women in our community currently in treatment for ovarian cancer and transportation assistance to women in treatment for all gynecological cancers. As an all volunteer staff, we are very thankful for the support from our community and those outside of NW Ohio & SE Michigan. 100% of the money we raise stays local to support the many women currently in treatment. "As I watched my Mother battle ovarian cancer with unwavering strength and faith - in the same fashion as her own mother battled ovarian cancer - I knew I needed to be a part of the movement that educates ladies on the early warning signs of the disease so others didn"t have to face the same struggle as Mom and Grams. Being a part of the Ovarian Cancer Connection has turned deep, heartfelt grief into a deep heartfelt passion. The financial assistance we offer ladies is something we take great pride in, because every person associated with the OCC is a volunteer - nobody is paid a salary. "Kathy M.
Results: As of October 1,2021 the OCC has provided over $150,000 in financial assistance to women in treatment for ovarian cancer and gynecologic cancers.
Target demographics: Women fighting ovarian and gynecologic cancers
Direct beneficiaries per year: Women in treatment have a difficult time getting to their medical appointments as well as their chemo and radiation treatments. We help by providing a gas card the week before her treatments until she has completed her treatment schedule. Recently, one of our gals will begin a 26 week course of treatments and the OCC will mail a $25 gas card the week prior to her next treatment for the next 26 weeks or longer if needed.
