Causes: Animals, Wildlife Preservation & Protection

Mission: PASA's mission is to support and represent PASA members in their critical work to protect and prevent the extinction of Africa’s primates.

The Pan African Sanctuary Alliance is a unique partnership of 23 wildlife centers in 13 countries across Africa that are leaders in the conservation and protection of great apes, monkeys, and their habitat.

PASA’s innovative approach unites our global perspective and international network with our members’ decades of experience in Africa as pioneers in primate protection.

With a vast network of members throughout Africa, PASA is in a unique niche to address conservation issues on a large scale and produce lasting changes to protect primates from extinction.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year, the Alliance rescued hundreds of great apes and monkeys from the illegal wildlife trade and the bushmeat crisis, and provides long-term care for more than 3,000 rescued primates.

Geographic areas served: The Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), the largest association of wildlife centers in Africa, includes 23 organizations in 13 African countries.

Programs: PASA's members are securing a future for Africa’s primates by working to stop the illegal trade in wildlife, rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintroducing orphans of the trade, protecting wild primate populations and their habitats, and educating and empowering communities. PASA strengthens our member organizations and is building a global movement to save Africa’s great apes and monkeys. The combination of PASA’s worldwide network and our members’ local expertise uniquely positions the Alliance to make a sustained impact on a large scale.
