These things are huge. I bought the 16” version which is about 16.5” total length with about 5.5” of available gripping length in jaw. At tip, they are about 1/4” tall. This is not just a 6” pair made long. Seem quite sturdy. Lock and unlock easily. You can see in the picture that it easily holds a piece of paper in closed jaws. I would have to rip the paper to get that out without unlocking them. Good serrations for teeth. I needed them to get debris out of the impeller of a boat. They are really quite sturdy with a smooth open and closing action. I'm not sure what the guy who complained about cutting off the tail of a rat was thinking they should have done, but you can bet the jaws close fully...kind of a duh that it cut off the tail. Great product for the money. I'm not in the medical field, but I don't see anything about these that would say they could not be used there unless they are not stainless. Great buy on a tool that met my needs.

Rough unfinished steel on both pairs I got. Pitted in places and even cracked on one pair. The teeth on the other pair are grinded down. Not aligned either which was odd to have to bend back with pliers. I mean these are as crudely made as you can imagine there is virtually no way the steel is good.
