Mission: The pbtf funds research seeking better treatments and ultimately cures for pediatric brain tumors. The foundation also provides educational, emotional and financial support for families, including scholarships for survivors, bereavement support, peer support, family camps and educational conferences.

Programs: In 2017, the pediatric brain tumor foundation:- invested in 15 of the most innovative pediatric brain tumor research projects involving 20 of the top institutions aimed at developing new and improved treatments, more targeted therapies, gathering more data and models to share with labs around the world, spurring collaboration and improving survival and quality of life. - supported $85,874 in college scholarships to 103 survivors. - distributed new toolkit created for newly-diagnosed families. - conducted three "meet the expert" educational/networking conferences. - provided $421,851 in emergency financial aid to 364 families in 11 states. - supported the international symposium on pediatric neuro-oncology. - thanks to the time and talent donated by rpa, the "imaginary friend society" animated film series launched to provide emotional support and teach children about brain tumor treatment in ways that are easy to understand. The pbtf launched a new three-year strategic plan (2017-19) and refined its vision and mission statements: our vision is a world without childhood brain tumors; our mission is care. Cure. Thrive. In addition to funding $1.8m in research, we convened meetings of the pediatric brain tumor research and nonprofit community to drive progress. We also participated with the international brain tumor community in exploring ways to find cures quicker and improve the quality of life for children and families. In an effort to increase awareness of the disease, the pbtf worked with a pro bono partner to create the imaginary friend society, resulting not only in a robust social media campaign but in a 20-part animated video learning series to prepare kids for their cancer treatment journey. To determine how best to meet the needs of pediatric brain tumor patients and families, we worked with the university of southern california to launch a nationwide community health needs assessment. We expanded our emergency financial assistance program, began work on a toolkit/notebook for survivors and updated our newly diagnosed toolkit for families. We also agreed to combine forces with a kids' brain tumor cure in 2018 for greater impact for kids with all brain tumor types.
