Mission: Pikeville medical center's mission is to provide world class quality health care in a christian environment.

Programs: Physician practices:currently, more than 350 physicians are members of pikeville medical center's medical staff. During fy 2017, pmc welcomed 28 physicians, two physician assistants, eight certified registered nurse anesthetists, and 12 nurse practitioners to the organization. The physicians recruited during this time period consist of five anesthesiologists, one cardiothoracic surgeon, one primary care physician, three intensivists, seven emergency medicine physicians, two hematologists/oncologists, four hospitalists, one interventional radiologist, one podiatrist, one pulmonologist, one urologist, and one vascular surgeon. With the addition of these new physicians, pmc offers more than 400 services, including most specialties and many subspecialties. Pmc, as a proud member of the mayo clinic care network, forged a partnership which was the first of its kind in the area. This powerful tool extends mayo clinic's knowledge and expertise to physicians and providers interested in working together in the best interest of their patients. Pmc providers accessed mayo clinic resources, via an online point-of-care information system and electronic consulting process that connects physicians with mayo clinic specialists on questions of diagnosis, therapy or care management. The primary goal of the mayo clinic care network is to provide the benefits of mayo clinic knowledge and expertise close to home, decreasing the patient's need to travel outside the region for healthcare. In 2014, pmc completed a multi-million dollar expansion, adding an 11-story clinic building and a 10-story parking garage on the main campus to improve the accessibility of health care and efficiency in the manner in which that care is delivered. The pmc clinic houses eight additional operating rooms, six endoscopy suites, 23 pre-op rooms, 27 post-op rooms and most of pmc's physician practices including cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, colorectal surgery, trauma surgery, general surgery, endocrinology, interventional radiology, gastroenterology, urology, orthopedic trauma surgery, orthopedic surgery, hand surgery, podiatry, sports medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, physiatry, pulmonology, ophthalmology, optometry, oral/maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, plastic/reconstructive surgery, and surgical oncology. The 1,162-space parking garage connects to the pmc clinic on each floor, allowing patients to conveniently park on the same floor as their physician's office. In addition to physician practices found in the clinic, pmc offers: bariatric surgery in pikeville (kentucky); cardiology general/invasive/interventional/electrophysiology in pikeville, whitesburg, prestonsburg, and south williamson (kentucky) and grundy (virginia); oncology medical/hematology/radiation/gynecologic in pikeville (kentucky); neurology in whitesburg, south williamson, and prestonsburg (kentucky); family medicine in harold and shelby valley (kentucky); obstetrics/gynecology in harold (kentucky); pain management; dermatopathology; pathology; psychology; cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation in pikeville (kentucky). Pmc also offers emergency medicine services and utilizes around-the-clock hospitalists, intensivists and neonatologists who devote their professional time to the care of hospitalized patients. Pmc and the pike county kentucky board of education formed an innovative partnership during 2017 to provide nurse practitioners for the school system's 2017-2018 term, reaffirming pmc's commitment to be a leader in providing quality healthcare to the children of the region. Pmc physicians completed 365,683 patient visits during fy 2017, an increase of 24 percent from the previous year. Many existing physician practices experienced significant growth during the year: obstetrics/gynecology (34% volume increase), pediatrics (22% volume increase) trauma surgery (25% volume increase), bariatrics (26% volume increase), intensivists (32% volume increase), and hospitalists (33% volume increase). New practices in the specialties of emergency medicine, nephrology, oral/maxillofacial surgery, optometry, and colorectal surgery encountered more than 49,396 patient visits during the fiscal year. The continued expansion of pikeville medical center's specialty capabilities, including trauma services, has resulted in fewer patients being transferred out of pmc to larger hospitals and an increase in the number of patient transfers in to pmc from smaller hospitals throughout eastern kentucky. Transfers in to pmc increased by 21% from 5,066 in fy 2016 to 6,118 in fy 2017.Pmc strives to ensure there is an adequate supply of primary care physicians for the rural region in which it serves and is a founding member of the appalachian osteopathic post graduate training consortium. To facilitate the education of primary care physicians, pmc operates the only family practice/neuromuscular medicine (fp/nmm) residency program in kentucky, the only one-year plus one neuromuscular medicine/osteopathic manipulative medicine residency program in kentucky and one of only five family practice and osteopathic manipulative treatment medicine residency programs in kentucky. The family practice clinic in conjunction with the residency program had nearly 12,000 patient visits during fy 2017.

surgical services:the surgical services division of pikeville medical center performs a comprehensive array of surgical and endoscopic procedures with some of the most sophisticated, technologically advanced medical equipment available. The recruitment of new surgeons from varied specialties, including trauma, has not only resulted in substantial expansion of service offerings but has also led to the increase in the number of or suites available to meet patient demand. Pmc has 20 operating rooms, including 2 dedicated open heart surgery operating rooms, and six endoscopy rooms currently in operation. During fy 2017 there were 354 open heart surgery cases, in addition to 20,761 surgical services cases, which included inpatient and outpatient endoscopy procedures, inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, and c-sections, a 7% increase in cases over the prior year. Pikeville medical center's wellness and weight loss surgery center is a comprehensive program mbs qip accredited by the american college of surgeons american society for metabolic and bariatric surgery. Services provided by the multi-disciplinary team within the weight loss surgery center include laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and revisional surgery along with pre-operative and post-operative processes to ensure the long term success of the patient. During fy 2017 pmc purchased the uroskop omnia max urology imaging system. The superior imaging technology, unrestricted patient access, and unhindered view provided by the uroskop omnia max results in exceptional image quality at the lowest possible radiation dose, optimizing not only operational efficiency but also patient safety. The capital investment for surgical services totaled $549,044

imaging services:pikeville medical center's american college of radiology accredited imaging services division takes pride in providing high quality diagnostic and interventional services in a caring and efficient manner. The state-of-the-art technology currently utilized within imaging services includes two linear accelerators, one 32-slice large bore ct scanner, two 64-slice ct scanners, two 320-slice ct scanners, a pet/ct scanner, a spect/ct scanner, two 1.5t open mris, a 3.0t open mri, an ir allura xper fd 20 cardiovascular system, and an azurion 7 c20 image guided therapy system. Pmc completed installation of the azurion 7 c20 image guided interventional x-ray system and control room within the fully equipped interventional radiology (ir) lab during fy 2017.Ir specializes in minimally invasive image-guided procedures that diagnose and treat diseases in most every organ system in the body. In addition to the two procedure rooms that are now in operation, the ir lab houses nine pre-operative and post-operative bays, a centralized nurse's station and two outpatient rooms for minor ultrasound procedures. Interventional radiology performed more than 3,300 procedures during fy 2017, an increase of 23% over fy 2016.The total capital investment in imaging services during fy 2017 was $1,298,470.
