Mission: Polaris Project is committed to combating human trafficking and modern-day slavery, which is the second-largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world. Polaris Project's comprehensive approach includes conducting direct victim identification, providing critical social services, advocating for strong laws and legal protection, and building the next generation of anti-trafficking leaders. Polaris Project works to have a direct impact on individual lives today, while also fighting for long-term systemic changes.

Programs: National hotline: in 2017, polaris project continued to operate the national human trafficking hotline (nhth), with funding from the u. S. Department of health and human services, office on trafficking in persons (otip). The national hotline improves the national response to protect victims of trafficking by connecting victims with a range of comprehensive services in the united states, and equips stakeholders with the most comprehensive tools and approaches necessary to enhance community networking, coordination, and response. In addition to operating the nhth, polaris project receives tips and communicates with victims through a texting service, and fields calls from outside the u. S.

strategic initiatives (si): polaris' extensive review of hotline, public source and partnership provided data has produced a detailed root cause analysis for more than 25 types of human trafficking, using this analysis, polaris designs targeted intervention campaigns to significantly disrupt or eliminate the key factors allowing each type to exist. Current work includes disruption of trafficking in illicit massage business and exploratory work on the trafficking of women and girls via mexico and latin america.

data analysis program (dap): collects and analyzes data from the polaris operated national hotlines, partner organizations, and public sources to map the scope, size, and systems of modern slavery, while breaking down data silos and building data infrastructure for the field. Dap seeks to understand and illuminate the complex issue of human trafficking, and provide the anti-trafficking field with the best tools possible through comprehensive analytics, guiding polaris' priorities and the field toward eradication.
