It took me awhile, but I finally got it all hooked up. I'm using it as a second pump in my above ground pool. The intake is hooked up to a skimmer in the pool and the outlet goes into a tank, then up to a solar heater of the roof, then down back into the pool. I probably could have used a bigger pump, but this one does work great. I put in an extra filter between the skimmer and the pump that I had from a previous pool. The good thing about this pump is that it will cut off automatically if there's a water supply problem. Every evening, usually, I turn the pump off. In the morning I change out the filter and turn it back on and let it run all day. If the filter gets too dirty and after about 24 hours of running, the pump will quit. I just turn it off for a couple of hours and then it's back on. I'm very pleased with the quality of this pump.

On the 3rd pump now; the first 2 we purchased (from 2 different vendors) went out; the propeller jammed and would not move at all. No idea why. After the 2nd one, we removed the extension cord (which was about 3 feet long) and managed to string it all the way to our outlet so there was no extra distance between the pump and the outlet. It's been several weeks now and the pump is still working, so I guess that may have been an issue. When it is working, it works well, and is VERY powerful.

I have had several smaller versions of this pump, I seem to always go to the next size up whenever it is time to replace a worn out pump. This one has 2.5x capacity of my last pump for not much more purchase money but I am sure I pay for it in electricity bills. BTW these Danner units used to be listed as Pondmaster and I had a 1800GPH model for 3 years or so.

The first one of these pumps we had lasted about 4 years running 24/7. Saw no reason not to get another.

Purchased this pump in 2009 pump is still working strong used it on a sand filter and a pressure filter with no problems. This pump has a lot more head pressure then some of the sites give it credit. However I would say that the 4800 pump is for very large ponds had about 30 ft of hose and it still flew out of the waterfall box.Already own 4 of these pumps just bought a 5th

I use nothing else in my 5000 gallon Koi pond. I run two skimmers, for redundancy and for waterfall volume. I ran other brands before, but they were noisier, used a lot more power and didn't last very long. I run two Hy Drive 4800 GPH models on about 500W total. That's only 2/3 of a Horsepower to move 9600 GPH. Never have had a GFI issue with a Hy Drive, either. Caution, never run dry; make sure you dunk it thoroughly and fill the pump cavity with water before initial start. Because XXX happens, I also run the pump input power through a float switch tied to the side of the pump, just above the intake.
