Mission: Providence Self Sufficiency Ministries was established in August 1994 in New Albany, IN, to provide, in collaboration with other organizations, programs designed to provide eudcational and family services to persons in need. Programs: Providence Self Sufficiency Ministries programs in southern Indiana include:Providence House for Children, Georgetown, IN, provides licensed foster care in two group homes for abused and/or neglected children, ages 6 to 21.Family Reunification and Preservation Program, Georgetown, IN, provides shelter, case management and counseling for families reuniting with children in foster care and families in danger of separation because they are homeless or live in substandard housing. Independent Living Program, Georgetown, IN, provides classes and case management for youths aging out of foster care. Adult Literacy/GED Program, Georgetown, IN, provides one-on-one instruction for adults age 17 and older. Safety Net, Georgetown, IN, collaborates with pharmaceutical companies to help people without insurance coverage for prescriptions obtain physician-prescribed medications for chronic conditions. The service is free. Safety Net has helped more than 3,000 people obtain medications valued at nearly $2 million. Guerin Woods Senior Center, Georgetown, IN, provides programs and activities for people age 55 and older in Floyd and surrounding counties in southern Indiana. The service is free. Guerin Woods Apartments, Georgetown, IN, provides apartments for individuals and couples age 62 and older with limited income. Providence Self Sufficiency Ministries provides administration and staffing for the following programs: Educational/Family Services, West Terre Haute, IN, provides adult literacy instruction, after-school tutoring and human services. A sliding scale fee may apply. Saint Ann Clinic, Terre Haute, IN, provides free basic health care services and referrals for people without insurance or a family physician. Local health-care professionals, hospitals and laboratories volunteer their time and resources to the clinic. Services are free. Connecting Link, West Terre Haute, IN, provides information, referral, emergency services, advocacy and blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring. Services are free. Providence Family Services, Chicago, IL, provides counseling, English-as-a-Second Language and computer classes and after-school homework help for individuals and families of Hispanic heritage. Fees may apply. Providence in the Desert, Indio, CA, provides English as a Second Language instruction for migrant workers; human services; and guitar and violin lessons and classroom music instruction for children. Services are free.
