I recently bought some number and letter sized Drill America bits, that were complete garbage, horribly ground, inaccurately sized and stored in an unusable metal box. At least, these were properly ground and sharp.

This product has earned a forever dedicated spot in my tool box! When installing handrails for stairs, some fittings require a screw pilot going through one fitting and into another for joining.I've used this on Ipe and White Oak handrails and I am very pleased with how long they last. Not only does this work exceptionally well, it's very affordable and I can have it delivered to my house! Living and working on an island with just a general hardware store close by, purchasing a replacement 6 bit required a 45 minute trip.

I purchased this extended drill bit to expand the ID of aluminum tubing by 1/64 of an inch. The subject piece was 21 in length. I did use cutting oil to reduce the friction on the total length of the bit. I made a couple of passes from each end and then blew out the aluminum debres with air.

For some reason, this size is hard to find at the local Big box store. As many already know, when installing a deck screw things go a lot easier if one drills a pilot hole first, then installs the deck screw. These 1/8 inch drill bit are perfect for the pilot hole.

When I'm drilling, it squeals super loud once I'm 4" in.. it happens alot to me.. good cheap bit for drilling them deep holes. Although even being slightly very careful , it bent jsut a little.. I only have 6.25" to work with so it wasn't too bad.. my neighbors probably hated me.

Bought for specific job that never materialized, so never used. Sitting in my drill box waiting for a need. Can't really speak to quality, longevity or performance... yet.

Good for very small holes and have multiple uses. Limited longevity. I suppose they are good for the hobby person or do it yourselver.

Worked like a charm! Needed it to fix my fence. I had to drill several long dead bolt screws and this fit the bill. Completed the project because of this drill bit.

Loved it. Drilling small diameter holes in 4x4 posts.

I used this to make replacement pins for my palmetto state glock clone. Took me five minutes to saw through it with a hack saw. Carbon steel not stainless. Easily cold blued.

I bought these to predrill holes on cabinets that I'm hanging on metal studs (light gauge). Previously I had used a brand sold at Lowes and they worked great but I wanted to see if a cheaper option might work.I bought four of the Drill America bits because at $1.50 each that's roughly the cost of one of the Lowes bits. To say I was dissapointed with this decision would be an understatement. These things smoked like hell right out of the gate as I drilled the first hole through two face frames. Look, I can live with a little smoke as long as the hole is drilled clean which to Drill America's credit it wasn't the worst hole I've ever seen ;)Next, I go to predrill a hole into a light gauge metal stud that the cabinet will be attached to and I hear a crack proceeded by grinding noises. I run the bit out and sure enough it snapped right off. Eh, maybe it's a fluke. Try the next one. I get a couple holes through the studs but sure enough on the fourth or fifth stud I hear another crack followed by grinding. Two more left and two more bit the dust in relatively short order. So to summarize, the Lowes drill bit - while more expensive - was of much better quality, durability and value. I was able to install 3 kitchens worth of cabinets before the bit started to dull (not snap) and I replaced with a new one. The Drill America bits on the other hand - while cheap - are poor quality, do not last long and will actually wind up costing you more in the long run because you will need to replace them so often. If you're only drilling wood they seem ok but if I'm drilling anything metal I'm definitely not using these in the future.

I used these only for drilling wood, but they worked very well. Good value.

It's a fine drill bit, definitely drills holes in things. Only worry I have with it is that it seems to bend somewhat easily when used, I can't stand snapping off drill bits into my projects. That being said, it's still holding up well after some light use.
