This broke 10x faster than an Autozone tap, which says a lot. It only has 2 flutes and the cross sectional width at the tip is about 1/8”.It broke instantly. I've never quite seen anything quite like it. I got less than a quarter turn into cutting, maybe 5ft/lbs of torque and it snapped. I don't know how you could tap anything made of steel with this. The company is called “Drill America” but its certainly not made in the U.S. Luckily, it was so brittle that I was easily able to punch the fragments out of the hole with a proper piece of tool steel. Buyer beware.

Used this to tap the lower receiver to allow a 4-40 set screw to capture the pivot pin detent spring. Worked perfectly. This is a “Must do” improvement in my opinion and for less than $10, there's no reason not to. Use the JT Custom 4-40 x 1/8” set screw kit and you're set

I had one bolt hole in my table saw cast iron top (Powermatic 66) that was damaged. I'm a woodworker, not a metalworker so I was concerned about making a bad problem worse. This tap has a tapered end that allows it to hunt for the existing good bolt threads. It did just that and I was able to repair the damaged opening threads in a matter of minutes. I couldn't be more pleased.

I needed to find a way to keep my volvo's door on. The plastic mounting brackets that the door screwed into wore away (car is nearly 20 years old) so i needed a solution to keep my door attached. I used epoxy putty, let it harden, then tapped it with this. Works great, had to pre-drill a pilot hole for this to get into the epoxy. Threads worked perfect for my - 20 threaded hex screws.

If you need to chase the threads on an AR-15 receiver pistol grip because some knucklehead cross threaded it, or because the receiver left the factory without fully cut threads, this is the one you need. 1/4-28. Cuts 7075-T6 aluminum like butter.
