I hand tapped over 30 holes at 4mm depth for some grub screws and they all came out perfect. Lots of the negative comments are from misuse. Remember to use cutting oil and back out a little constantly. Most importantly, make sure you are pre-drilling the right size diameter hole before tapping. The correct size can be found online. For an M4 tap, you need a 3.3mm hole.

I used the tap to cut internal threads in a stainless steel 304 rod turning in a lathe. It cut 50 depth threads (0.330 tap drill) in a very slow, tedious process. Successful - OK.

Benchcrafted sends machine-threaded screws to attach the Retro Crisscross and Glide hardware for their renowned leg vise, rather than wood lag bolts/screws. Surprisingly for me, they actually worked quite well. This Bottom Tap has thread cutters almost to the end of the tool, allowing you to drill a hole slightly longer than the effective depth of the screw, unlike the taps available at big-box home improvement stores which have a longer distance between the full-sized cutting thread and the end of the tap. Since I'm using it on Southern Yellow Pine, there's no appreciable wear on the tap while using it, and it was the right tool for this job.

I'm working on a 1952 tractor and needed a durable tap to rethread without breaking and it worked great

This cut well, was sharp and easy to use. I only tapped two holes, so I can't speak to durability.

My boiler was leaking water at the gasket for the domestic hot water coil. When I remove the bolts that attached the coil to the cast iron boiler, of course three of the bolts sheered off. So, I drilled the center of the bolts out and used an easy out. And of course, it immediately broke off in the drilled out hole (why do these never work and yet I keep trying them?) Eventually got them out, but managed to mangle the threads in the cast iron with a drill bit. I used this to chase the threads in the cast iron.It worked PERFECT.Like a hot knife through butter. I was not cutting new threads in a un-tapped hole, but I have no doubt this wouldn't have a problem with it. Got the new bolts with this tap and they threaded right in no issues. Now, hope the red Permatex does the job and I have leak free years ahead.Overall, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. If it tore through cast this easy, most anything else will be even easier.

I see all kind of people who have no clue how to use stuff and blame it on the product. Yes you will need to know what you are doing to use this and any tools. Used it on aluminum and it worked great. Seems a bit large fitting a 3/4 bolt from home depot.. Good for the price, great that it works without problem. Done only one tap. It looks brand new after that only time use.

The product listing shows several pictures of a bottoming tap with a flat tip and a shank narrower than the teeth - what I got was a tap with a pointy tip and a thick shank, which is useless for tapping a deep CNCed hole with a flat bottom.

I ordered the small 8-40 tap, I had a scope mount plug screw that was glued in and had the strength of god. I broke an extractor trying to get it out, drilled it and still couldn't get the sucker out.Decided just to retap the hole and threads to see if I could get the bits of old plug out, managed to use this and match the old threads and work it's way out while trimming out the old gunk.I did feel a uncomfortable amount of flex in the bit once I started getting to the tough part and I feel with a little more turning would have snapped it. Fortunately this is all I needed it for but am certain it wouldn't survive tapping new threads in a hard steel receiver.

Well made and sturdy. I used it the first time tapping hardwoods. It cut nicely defined threads. I haven't used it on metal, but expect the same results.

I received this product and it was of great quality and completed the job perfectly. I used it to tap aluminum piping. Unfortunately after completing the job, I realized I had purchased the wrong size. Overall though, it did a great job at what I ordered it to do. Thank you!

Looks well made, but the website images of plug tap didn't match profile of tap I received. There is an extra 2-3mm of point tip that makes it more like a taper tap. Ended up returning it..

Drilled out a rusted bolt in my car's license plate holder and then used this to retap the threads. Worked great.
