My boiler was leaking water at the gasket for the domestic hot water coil. When I remove the bolts that attached the coil to the cast iron boiler, of course three of the bolts sheered off. So, I drilled the center of the bolts out and used an easy out. And of course, it immediately broke off in the drilled out hole (why do these never work and yet I keep trying them?) Eventually got them out, but managed to mangle the threads in the cast iron with a drill bit. I used this to chase the threads in the cast iron.It worked PERFECT.Like a hot knife through butter. I was not cutting new threads in a un-tapped hole, but I have no doubt this wouldn't have a problem with it. Got the new bolts with this tap and they threaded right in no issues. Now, hope the red Permatex does the job and I have leak free years ahead.Overall, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. If it tore through cast this easy, most anything else will be even easier.

I see all kind of people who have no clue how to use stuff and blame it on the product. Yes you will need to know what you are doing to use this and any tools. Used it on aluminum and it worked great. Seems a bit large fitting a 3/4 bolt from home depot.. Good for the price, great that it works without problem. Done only one tap. It looks brand new after that only time use.

The product listing shows several pictures of a bottoming tap with a flat tip and a shank narrower than the teeth - what I got was a tap with a pointy tip and a thick shank, which is useless for tapping a deep CNCed hole with a flat bottom.

I received this product and it was of great quality and completed the job perfectly. I used it to tap aluminum piping. Unfortunately after completing the job, I realized I had purchased the wrong size. Overall though, it did a great job at what I ordered it to do. Thank you!

Seem to be well made. Have only use in aluminum so not a real test.

Looks well made, but the website images of plug tap didn't match profile of tap I received. There is an extra 2-3mm of point tip that makes it more like a taper tap. Ended up returning it..

Drilled out a rusted bolt in my car's license plate holder and then used this to retap the threads. Worked great.

I had some threads gall up on my motorcycle exhaust. I used this to clean out the threads and it did a good job.

Based on most reviews I was hesitant to purchase this but I figured for the price even if it didn't work, I wasn't out too much money. Now, I'm not sure what others are using it for that they're breaking these but I used it on an aluminum transmission housing to rethread a hole that stripped out and it worked flawlessly. I'm no master tapper (is that even a thing?) but I definitely recommend this to anyone needing something this specific. I used the M12x1.25 which is a VERY specific size/thread pitch for Japanese cars (not sure on other imports, though).

I bought this with a cheap hand tool for the tap and that's how I planned to use it. I needed to re-thread the bolt hols underneath my van that had become encrusted with rust and crust. I got 5 of the 6 working fine, but one seems to have not had enough material remaining. Not this products fault though... at least I don't think so.Anyway, It did what I needed. No more no less.
