We love this Double Pie Iron. We have used it on about 5 camping trips now and it has been a game changer in the mountains. It's not for the weak. This thing is built heavy, it is cast iron and makes a feast each round. You do need to care for it and season it like any other cast iron product. It will rust without love and break if mishandled also like any other cast iron item. The meals made in it are amazing though, especially when off the grid. Mmmm!

Works great for meat, potatoes, eggs. Haven't actually done a pie in them lately. I bought two and would do it again!

I remember this from when I was a girl scout on camping trips. However I burned, badly, my food while camping this past weekend. Maybe it was because I used Texas Toast instead of normal sized bread, even though it did fit into the holder perfectly. More than likely I just kept it in the fire too long. The first time I took it out, the cheese on my sandwich was not even melted, the second time I took it out, the bread was black. I will try again on a future camping trip. I just need to get the timing down correctly.

We really like using this to make pizza sandwiches for the kids when we go camping. It just takes a little while to get used to how quickly it Cooks so that you don't burn the sandwiches. But I really like it.

Wish we had bought these sooner (we bought a single and a double)! We LOVE them. We cooked nearly every meal in them on our last camping trip, which was two weeks long! The sky is the limit ... use your imagination!

I thought buying a double iron would be double quick for camping dinners. It's a nice iron, but very heavy. Prefer my small aluminum ones.

The handles bent with the first wood fire. The older Rome pie iron was fine. Very disappointed in this one,be careful they are not made like the older ones. This iron was seasoned 4 times before using

I have a single pie iron, but hated that I could only make one sandwich or treat at a time. This double one is great. I can make two of everything and the cooking goes much faster. I was afraid it might be to heavy, but it doesn't seem to be much heavier than the single.

I haven't built up enough of a non-stick coating yet so it still needs foil lining, but I've made some excellent grilled cheese and hand-pie pizzas. Nice and crispy brown on the outside. Solid manufacturing.

Okay Pie Iron. This pie iron is very heavy! Too heavy for kids to hold over a fire. I don't care for the design. It opens completely apart, which makes it heard to use when camping. A heat proof table would help putting the food in and out of it, but trying to do it on a piece of log in the woods is a little difficult. I have a few cheaper ones that I like better. Be aware that there is no 34;divider34; in this double iron, so if you are making pies or sandwiches, the edges do not seal on all four sides and the fillings will leak out. We use it for eggs, french toast, hamburgers, etc,

One of my favorite memories of camping as a child was my mom making all sorts of amazing things in her old Pie Iron. So while preparing for our upcoming family camping trip with our 5 kids (ages 2-14) and my in-laws, I decided to pick some up! Due to the amount of people that were camping with us, I decided to buy 1 single and 2 double pie irons. I researched and prepared a plethora of meal and snack ideas ahead of time. And everything was a huge hit! We made blueberry stuffed French toast for breakfast, ham and cheese 34;hot pockets34; for lunch, and fruit pies for a late night snack (pictured: strawberry cream cheese fruit pie using croissant dough dusted with powered sugar). We used both bread and croissant dough for different pies and they both worked out great! But the croissant dough really surprised me at how easy it cooked up and how delicious it was! The pie iron itself is very sturdy. It also comes out of the fire very hot! So make sure you keep them away from curious kids once you pull them out of the fire. The handles are comfortable and there is a metal latch that keeps the 2 sides locked together while cooking. My only complaint about the double pie iron is that it is very heavy. I bought 2 of them thinking it would feed our larger group quicker, which it did. But I definitely got a workout! I understand that this is just part of the territory with this product, so it didn't affect my overall rating. However, I'm gonna see if the hubby can't build some sort of pie iron tripod to help in the future! For all I know, maybe such a thing already exists! I would definitely recommend this for camping! Everyone enjoyed the food we made with them. There are a lot of recipe ideas available on the internet or be creative - the possibilities are endless!
