Mission: Reiser Relief is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded by Father Bernard Reiser. Our mission is to empower the people of Haiti in Christ's name through education, elder care, job creation, and agriculture. We partner with Catholic sisters, clergy, and lay people on the ground in Haiti to accomplish our mission.
Results: We support five schools that together educate over 1,600 children and young adults through lunch programs, capital improvements, and teacher salary support. These include Saint Michael School (Cite Soleil), Terre Promise School (Cite Soleil), Guardian Angels School (Leogane), Reiser Heights School (Donte), and Cecelia Duffy Memorial School (Marfranc). With administrative support of the Companions of Jesus Sisters, we sponsor tuition and living expenses for six students at the University of Notre Dame in Port au Prince, including a medical student graduate now in her internship. We also fund the sisters’ trade school in Delmas, where young men and women may enroll in a one-year culinary arts or a two-year fashion design program. In its first year of operation, 34 culinary arts students graduated, with many finding meaningful work immediately! As part of their training, the students and their instructors brought much needed joy to the community with their grand entertaining events. Additionally, we support all operational costs of Sacred Heart Elderly Home in Port-au-Prince, where 25 women are lovingly cared for by Companions of Jesus Sisters. We cover all operational costs at two elderly homes in the rural village of Marfranc, home to 19 men and 13 women managed by the Little Sisters of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. We assist the Village of Jesus Elderly Home in Leogane with facility improvements, where 36 women live and receive dignified care from Companions of Jesus Sisters.
Target demographics: the poorest of the poor in Haiti
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 1,600 students, 93 elderly, and over 100 jobs provided!
