I have never owned a frame drum, or any type of drum really, so bought this on faith...(err, price). My main desire was to learn how to call down the spirits while simultaneously bugging my neighbors with the noise, then maybe walking barefoot to a nearby park and joining a ganga smoking drum circle to show off my lack of skills.

Seriously, I bought this little drum strictly for pleasure. I've always been a fan of drumming but never owned any of my own.

It is a quality made product, for sure, the only ding against it is that the product description (as many others have said) is not accurate. No it doesn't have holes or a thumb hole in the rim, which I suppose would've been a plus. (Really, that's my only critical comment about the product)

I'm a newbie, and I look forward to playing with this to learn the basics! The 10 inch drum feels awkward to me though, but that's mainly because I've never used a frame drum before. We'll see how this goes! :-)

They do not have a thumb notch or holes in the frame as the description says, and the sound is high and ringing.

The drum is top quality, no doubt about it. The tone is so beautifully clear. I am absolutely in love with this drum. The only thing I would say is that people with small hands like mine should be aware that the frame is really wider - wider than I would have imagined - and it unfortunately does not have a cut-out to make holding it easier. If you have small hands, I would consider the thin frame.

Bought the 14" 12" 10" 8" and for the price and practice it's amazing what tones you can flesh out of these frame drums. Spring for the frame drum mounts and stands so they can be isolated and arranged as a kit....Well constructed for many years of use!

Love my Remo hand drum. This is my first drum purchase. Very meditative. It does say there is a thumb hole on it. It is actually an indentation t to place your thumb-not a full cut out circle- Sound is very relaxing . Thumbs up!

One of the worst sounding drums I have ever heard. No strings on the back to hold it. I would not even want to buy it for a child as I would not want to hear the high pitched, tinny sound. Fiberskyn is not at all like the other Remo drums.

Church choir director here, bought this for all-purpose use—including, say, an anthem that calls for congas. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it produces a variety of tones. High and low ring, not just a basic thud. I strongly recommend Pete Lockett's website (easy to find—his name followed by a dot and a com) with his six introductory lessons on this drum.

Sounds like I'm hitting the side of a tin barn, but with less bass/percussion. It's very tangy in sound.
