Mission: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington provies a "home away from home" for families with seriously ill children, supports initiatives to improve pediatric health. To accomplish this, we rely on the generosity of thousands of donors, the ingenuity of hundreds of volunteers, and the dedication of our staff.
Results: In the last year, 1,512 families stayed 11,838 nights at Portland's Ronald McDonald Houses.
Programs: Ronald mcdonald house charities of oregon and southwest washington (rmhc) provides a free "home away from home" for families of children facing serious illness, providing access to some of the most specialized medical treatment available. A child's medical treatment shouldn't be restricted based on proximity to home, and a family shouldn't worry about where they can afford to stay during treatment or where they will get their next meal. At rmhc, we believe that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of a family close by is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. Rmhc operates three residential facilities, in portland and bend, that provide, not only temporary housing, but a wide range of family support activities. The house program consists of a 25-room east house, located on the campus of legacy emanuel medical center in northeast portland, a 25-room west house waterfront located on the 5th floor of the marriott residence inn riverplace and a 6-room bend house located on the campus of st. Charles hospital. In 2017, these three houses supported over 1,800 families and 2,200 children. In 2017, rmhc launched the hospitality cart program at randall children's hospital. This in-hospital program supports children and families by providing food, refreshments, and comfort care items on a fully stocked cart that travels between hospital's neonatal icu, pediatric icu, and acute-care floors. The program is staffed 100% by volunteers. In 2017, we served over 4,500 people and distributed over 10,000 items.
