LIke the standard issue that this bag is based on, this is essentially one giant duffel bag, opened from the end and securely buckled with metal fasteners and rings stamped and secured in the canvas. The thing is versatile and inexpensive. Best used with compartmentalizing with smaller bags to stack inside, example a sleeping bag, toiletries bag, clothing bag, etc.The reason it is just three stars, is well, much like that standard issue ruck sack, the inclination for a person to stuff this to the brim, the stock straps will pinch at the wearer's shoulders, chest, and move all of that force to two fine lines over a hike. Not good as it can cut off circulation. A cheap remedy is to electrical/duct tape a sliced swimming pool noodle through the entire shoulder strap area. It would handle all but the heaviest of loads which by design would require a much wider strap for the shoulders (that the bag lacks), and places to caribean to one's belt or pants belt loops at the sides.I adapted mine to also have a combination of braided paracord and bungee cords and hooks for ease of loading on pillion of a motorcycle with out a cheap hook-flimsy net. Users of the bag with all of that blank canvas would also may opt to have patches here and there or other means of additional hooks or straps.Another thing, would be to treat with Scotchguard for some water resistance and repellant.Versatile for the cheap. But do not expect anything fancy or feature accommodating.
