After wearing an old milsurp field jacket for 25 years, it was time for a replacement as the old jacket really was beginning to look like it had gone through the wars. Unfortunately, these days the genuine milsurp field jackets all have some sort of a camo pattern, which would be fine for wandering about the woods, but less useful for wandering around town.Enter the Rothco field jacket in a nice neutral tan. I had high hopes for this jacket, and I will certainly wear it about where my old jacket used to get me unsolicited referrals to homeless shelters. The Rothco does look nice, and is comfortable. Will it last 20 years of hard use? I doubt it; I'm not certain it is as robust as the 'real deal'. The largest disappointment are the pockets. It has the same number of pockets as I'm used to, but they are tiny, barely able to fit hands alone, unlike the 'real' field jacket that could fit full sized hardcover books and magazines (the print kind, not just the firearms kind).
