I've been looking for one of these for a while, and finally found a used one, in new condition! I'd noticed in many fashion mags and web articles how the M-65 has become a staple to have in your wardrobe, so kept my eyes out on Craigslist etc. I even bought a slim, Diesel J-Niraw jacket, which is excellent fashion-wise, but doesn't allow for a thick sweater or mid-layer jacket underneath. So the search continued, until last weekend, when I found one in my size. Well, let's talk about that - I'm 5'10", 170 lbs., 42" chest, but wear a 40R jacket; I'd call myself athletic-slim. I normally buy outerwear in M/L, depending on whether I want to wear anything bulky underneath the jacket or not. My M-65 is tagged as "XSMALL REGULAR" (pic attached), whatever that means, as it fits as close as I could probably get. The sleeves are the perfect length, so they got that right, but that's about it. Even with a decent mid-layer underneath, the body is still too big/boxy for my likes. I managed to adjust it a bit, by sewing the shoulder gussets closed from the inside - easily accomplished by pulling the material out through the hood zipper (pic attached showing gusset sewn closed). I've got the waist string cinched up pretty tight, so now it doesn't look as full through the body. Too bad about the arms though, as they have more than enough room for a thick mid-layer. It works well when I layer it over a North Face Thunder down jacket... makes sense, as this jacket is supposed to have a warm, winter liner in it.There are features I do like however. The cotton is soft and feels warm, yet if you wash it and hang-to-dry, it will give it a nice, structured feel. I also like the way the hood tucks into the "back" of the jacket vs. rolled up in the collar (the way most other jackets do it). The quality of my jacket is good - I personally think some of the negative reviews on here are for the wrong Rothco jacket - mine has the little red tab on the top left pocket indicating the Vintage version. The breast pockets sit "flat" against the fabric (unless filled, of course), unlike other M-65s out there, where they stand proud from the jacket. Similarly, I like the way the bottom pockets are integrated, vs. pouch style. I wore it today over a synthetic mid-layer jacket, in a cold, brisk wind, and felt surprisingly warm; it works great as a wind-stopper.I don't care for the "triangular" cuffs (pic attached - designed for wear with gloves apparently), but it folds back and velcros in place. Also, a full-length zipper with bottom-up zip would be nice, but probably not part of the original design. The dual-layer cotton is going to get you soaked in the rain - it's not even close to being water repellent. Although I didn't buy this with the intent of wearing in the rain, I'm going to treat mine with Nikwax Cotton Proof for those just-in-case days. I'll never use the hood, so I've put a piece of cardboard in the collar so it stands up better.Overall, I'd say it's an OK jacket for the money - however a great deal for me at $20, purchased via Facebook Marketplace. It's not as fashionable as I would have liked, but it is more functional than expected. If you're always going to have something thick underneath as a mid-layer, it works well. Otherwise, if you don't mind the boxy-look/extra material, or happen to have a body type that "fills" through the mid-section, then go for it.

If you are looking for rugged, this is is. I needed a winter coat with enough pockets for all the crap I carry. I need it to be light enough for fall and warm enough for winter. Buy the jacket liner and it does amazing things. My only complaint is it doesn't have side opening bottom pockets to stick your hands in when things are more than a bit breezy and near the below zero point.

Bought this as a gift for my sister’s fianc and the fit was perfect and he is in love. The pockets are nice and stay flat and it looks great. He is a tall guy and it isn’t too long or weird in the width. So I recommend this for any of the guys in your life.

The material is a little lighter weight than a WWII army field jacket but the build quality is excellent!Comfortable fabric but....I wore out my father's WWII field jacket and have been looking for a replacement. I could get a sweat jacket underneath it for layering and had plenty of room in the sleeves for arm movement.I ordered a size small per the reviews and it is too small! The chest is too small and the jacket binds when I raise my arms even without a liner.Sending back the Large and ordering an XL.I will review again on fit when I get it.

I ordered a small size which reads:Height: 66" - 71"Chest: 33" to 37"I figured it was in my alley since I'm 67" inches, and weigh 130 pounds. I put it on, and it felt like a large! The sleeves went all the way past my hands. The quality of the jacket was really nice! It's just the size that's the problem...Bottom line, if you wanna buy this, get a size one or two sizes down than what you normally wear.

My previous M-65 (from some Army Surplus store) has lasted me over 30 winters but is looking a bit tatty these days--still usable but not quite "wife approved." This coat is beautiful: just like my old green, army jacket but in an elegant black, with the same wide, brass zipper, the same snaps, the same hood, and the same buttons inside to accommodate my old coat liner! I am massively pleased with this purchase! I'd buy another one for a spare but have a feeling this one will outlive me this time around! Only other thing: Yes, everyone who says this runs big is correct! I take an XL (5' 8", about 215 lb.) but the Large fits me with room to spare WITH the liner in it. FANTASTIC! Great quality build and absolutely no regrets over having my old coat so perfectly replaced.

LOVE this jacket. Here's my 2 cents on the size issue: I'm 6'2" 265lbs. I always wear 3XL. Based on reviews here, I ordered a 2XL. Long story short, it fits fine, but my preference would be for it to be a bit looser. For big guys, I do NOT recommend sizing down. Go with your "gut"...(see what I did there?) I will not be able to layer as much as I'd like to. It will end up being a Fall/Spring jacket in my wardrobe. As far as quality, it's a wonderful product. Looks and feels "well worn". Very solid and durable construction. I also customized it with my own patches. Definitely a 5 star purchase that you will not regret. Just remember...this is NOT a conventional M-65. Rothco makes those too. Be aware of the difference.

It's a great jacket, but it runs quite large. I wear a large size and I'm swimming in this thing.

This jacket is quality. Ran a bit big on me, though. 6'2" and 270 lbs. Sleeves were long and I had enough room on the inside for a leprechaun too. Really cool styling and thick enough material. Returning for a 2XL.

I have been looking far and near for this jacket. Very heavy duty and will be great when fishing in the early morning hours or riding on a motorcycle.
