Causes: Crime & Law, Law Enforcement

Mission: Our mission is to make kingdom impacts by protecting and serving those who serve and protect. SHIELD616 exists to provide the necessary ballistic protection to first responders in need AND to bridge the gap between the community and their local law enforcement and first responders. We help educate communities on the need for rifle rated armor and encourage them to rally behind their local first responders financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Many community members are searching for ways to help nurture and encourage their first responders. Our program is helping build positive relationships between communities and their respective agencies, using rifle armor as the conduit. While our mission doesn't fall into the typical grant funding categories, we know our efforts are appreciated in the communities we service. First responders everywhere deserve the very best lightweight gear that will stop most kinds of handgun and rifle threats. Unfortunately, limited public safety budgets do not always allow for this.

Results: In the 5 years since SHIELD616 was founded, our organization has grown to 4 full-time staff members, over 60 volunteers, and a board of 7.We started out by providing throw-over active shooter protection for local Colorado Springs agencies. As word got out of our mission, we expanded all over the country. In 2019 we were able to protect 2,100 first responders. Currently we have helped provide this ballistic gear in 22 states and have protected over 5,000 of first responders. SHIELD616 is seen as a leader in this field and is recognized by both donors and agencies as being a reputable nonprofit that is financially transparent. Since our inception our president, staff and board have worked hard to diversify our funding and grow our brand recognition at every opportunity. When SHIELD616 started just over five years ago, our donors consisted primarily of individuals in our community that understood and were passionate about our mission. Our model for engaging every member of the community regardless of socioeconomic status has proven effective in protecting first responders with rifle armor. Additionally, we always hear about the positive physical, emotional, and spiritual impact that SHIELD616 is having on communities!

Target demographics: We work to better protect first responders in need of better protective gear.

Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2019, we helped 2,100 first responders in agencies in Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, Nebraska, Arizona, and more to receive this potentially life saving gear. This issue is not specific to one area or state. The budget shortfalls are all over.

Geographic areas served: We work in communities all over the United States.

Programs: We provide all-day rifle protection at no charge to the first responder or their agency with no strings attached and no red tape.
