Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries, Nutrition

Mission: The mission of the Food Bank Coalition is to work with a network of community partners to alleviate hunger in San Luis Obispo County and build a healthier community.

Results: We are distributing relief food to over 31,000 individuals a month. We can provide much-needed relief to those facing hunger through our 80+ nonprofit agency partners, our monthly neighborhood distributions, Senior Home Delivery Program, Children's Farmers Markets, Senior Farmers Markets, Summer Breakfast Bag program, and No-Cook Bag program. Since its inception, GleanSLO, a food rescue program of the SLO Food Bank, has rescued over 2.5 million pounds of produce from backyards, farms, and farmers' markets. Last year, they picked and provided over 310,000 pounds of local produce to those we serve.

Target demographics: We alleviate hunger for the 31,000 residents who are food insecure in San Luis Obispo County.

Direct beneficiaries per year: distribute 4.1 million pounds of free and/or low-cost food to individuals and households directly and through redistributing agencies.

Geographic areas served: San Luis Obispo County
