I use it for boring holes in high carbon steel, mostly for knives/tools. Pictured above is a horse rasp knife, but I have used it on 4330, 4140, and 1095 steel as well. The rasp itself is a type of W-2 steel (1 and up in carbon content) and has snapped Titanium bits and a few other high speed drill bits. Carbide is the only way to go for what I use on the forge for tools and cutting implements. You do need to understand your speeds and feeds as well as realizing that if the carbide bit flexes it can snap. Otherwise the bit works well for what I have been using it for.

Great drill bit most people that wrote these reviews are using them in hand drills. What a carbine drill bit is not supposed to be in a hand drill. It's supposed to be in a vice in a milling machine. Not a drill press either. People need to do their research about the type of metal drill bits.

I'll set the scene for you! I broke a stainless bolt off in a aluminum boat part so I order this bit thinking hey it's a carbide bit no problem for a lil stainless well I was wrong I was maybe 3/16 in this bolt and it snapped no excessive pressure and I had drilled a lil blew it out with air put oil in hole so I did plenty of measures to keep the bit cool

Best use is for a stationary drill press. This small diameter carbide bit breaks easily in a hand drill.
