Causes: Environment
Mission: We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses and livestock animals in cooperation with local animal control and law enforcement agencies. We provide programs that educate children and special needs adults on animal safety and care. We provide lifelong care to senior and endangered animals that might otherwise go to slaughter or end up in the food production chain. We also provide therapeutic equine experiences to children.
Programs: Our adoption program generated $25,181 in adoption donations. We incurred $63,718 for the direct veterinary care, feed, and farrier costs for the adoption animals. At december 31,2017 we had 20 horses, 16 goats, and 1 cat in our adoption program.
our sanctuary program incurred $7,080 in expenses with no direct corresponding revenue. This included cost of barn maintenance, blankets and supplies as well as burial and cremation costs for horses who passed away due to natural causes or humane euthanasia once they had reached an end of quality of life. At december 31,2017 we had 9 horses, 1 cow, 5 goats, and 1 cat in our sanctuary program.
our general fund and children's programs received $83,915 in cash donations, in-kind donations, and fundraising proceeds to offset the costs of the adoption, children's outreach and sanctuary programs. We spent $15,543 in administering costs of these programs including postage, merchant services fees, advertising, insurance, and maintenance. In addition we received $17,500 in in-kind donations for materials utilized to construct a training and equine therapy arena on property we lease. At the present time we account for our children's programs within our general fund, though in the future this program may grow and be treated separately. During 2017 we served approximately 60 youth in state custody through the foster care system, as well as other economically disadvantaged youth falling on the autism spectrum and with other intellectual disabilities.
