Mission: The CAP Agency assists and empowers people to achieve social and economic well being by providing services in partnership with our communities. The CAP Agency serves approximately 25,000 children, families and senior citizens each year. The CAP Agency offers a variety of social services in each county and continues to grow and evolve to reflect its commitment to address the unmet needs of the community. The CAP Agency began in 1965, as part of President Lyndon Johnson's "War on Poverty" movement.

Programs: Child education:head start is a preschool program serving families with children ages 3 - 4.The program provides education, social services, and health and nutrition services to more than 500 children living in scott, carver, and dakota counties. Early head start is a home-based program serving 20 children and their families. From fall 2013 - spring 2014, four year old children in our program had an average proficiency increase from 60% to 90% in social/emotional maturity, cognitive and physical development. Of the children enrolled in our program, 100% are up to date on medical and dental exams. 100% of our head start families participated in a goal setting process resulting in a family partnership agreement.

food programs:the food program includes wic, food support outreach, and senior nutrition. Women, infants, and children (wic) is a nutrition education program intended to promote good health. Wic serves women who are pregnant, nursing or postpartum. It also serves families with infants and children under the age of five whose households meet the income eligibility guidelines. Each month, wic served an average of 2,502 persons by providing nutrition education and distributing $1,783,000 in food vouchers. The food support outreach program provides education and assistance to residents of scott, carver and dakota counties. Over 21,489 individuals received information on the food support program and were screened for program eligibility. Outreach efforts included radio interviews reaching nearly 21,000 individuals, direct mailings to 7,433 households, and over 10,080 people attended presentations on food support. Senior nutrition provided 95,770 nutritious, hot mid-day meals at 18 senior nutrition sites throughout scott, carver and dakota counties.

energy assistance: the energy assistance program provides financial assistance to help renters and homeowners in scott, carver, and dakota counties pay a portion of their energy bills. Funds are also available for energy crisis situations and energy-related repair bills. The organization provided nearly 7,641 energy assistance services with an additional 2,625 crisis payments.
