Love that it comes apart for when you arent fishing and you dont have to take the screws out.

I fish multiple rods for certain techniques and the surface mount is sturdy and convenient to place on the gunwale of a boat allowing flexible rod holder placement.

I have only installed this but from what I can tell, Its solid and sturdy. My only complaint is that it came with no screws so I bought 8 stainless steel screws from the hardware store for 3 bucks and the install was a snap. I'll take the boat out this weekend but I dont foresee any problems

Due to the unreliable locking mechanism of the rod holder to the gearhead, I have lost 2 of Scotty rodholders into the water, forever gone! Both times I was kayak fishing and got strikes. When lifting the rod out quickly the rod holder lifts out as well and drops into the water. Don't waste your money on these. Yak Attack has a much more reliable locking mechanism.

For the price I was expecting it to be less quality but the are great can't wait to get on the water every chance I get. Does not come with mounting hardware so I suggest buying kayak rivet kit and clear silicone adhesive.
