BRONZE GARBOARD DRAIN (3-520040-1) is the first set of planks or plates laid on the boat's bottom near the keel. It is a retention system that helps prevent loss and allows water to escape from the bilge. The threaded bronze fittings securely plug a drain hole. When seawater or rain piles up inside the boat. It can be open to allow all the water to flow out to avoid further damage critical to the engine.

To install, simply drill a pilot hole through the hull's side at the lowest position in the bilge, inclined slightly downward, to attach the fitting. After cutting the required hole with a hole saw the same diameter as the stem on your garboard drain. Also, make sure the hole's edges are sealed with epoxy resin.

Added a keel drain to my boat. I'll probably replace the plug with a recessed head one because this is mounted on the side of the hull.
