Mission: Seamen's Society was founded in 1846 to care for the children and widows of sailors in the Port of New York. Seamen's Society was one of the first organizations to care for abandoned children in family settings, rather than institutions. Today, Seamen's Society is a comprehensive social service agency working in Staten Island and Brooklyn providing the following services to children and families in need: foster care and adoption, medical and mental health services, preventive and intensive preventive services, center-based and family day care, domestic violence intervention, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, educational support and youth programs.

Target demographics: provide the highest quality services in the community to strengthen and preserve families so that children and adults have the opportunity to realize their full potential.

Geographic areas served: Staten Island and Brooklyn

Programs: foster care and adoption, medical and mental health services, prevention, domestic violence intervention, family day care, educational support and youth development, we have preserved our founder’s pledge to help children and families realize their full potential.
