Causes: Philanthropy

Mission: A few weeks before my mom (Shirley) died people would come by to visit and see her one last time. During the visits, discussion often turned to the hardship cancer causes people while they are sick and undergoing their treatments. Friends and family told horrible stories of people they knew who had cancer and lost their home, been evicted, had their water or electricity turned off because they were too sick to work, etc. While mom was still able to hear us, I promised her i would start an organization that would help change things for people. IN the fall of 2013 we started an organization called Shirley's Way and we raise money to help Cancer patients with everyday expenses while they are fighting for their life. When people are going through cancer treatments they are too sick to work and often they lose their jobs because they can't work. It is such an injustice in the world. Especially with so much wealth in this country. People should not lose their home, be evicted or have their utilities shutoff when they are so sick. People who are fighting for their life do not need to worry about every day living expenses. It is a proven fact that stress will worsen a persons illness. We are trying to remove that stress from a cancer patient's life so they can focus on healing.

Results: We started holding a few events in late 2013 after my mom ( Shirley) died. I promised her we would do something different that could change the world. We have give away over $305,000 since 2014.We try to pay the debtor vs. just given a sick person a check because we want to make sure it goes towards bills that could cause them hardship in the long run.

Target demographics: We help cancer patients financially

Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year we gave away $120,000 and have given away over $305,000 since we started in the form of everyday expenses.

Geographic areas served: Kentucky, Southern IN and TN

Programs: We help pay cancer patients rent, mortgage, utilities, food, medicine etc.
