Mission: Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse advances the long-term well-being of people with brain injury-related disability and their families through skills development, support and advocacy.
Results: Since its inception in 2000, Side by Side has:- Served over 450 members and their families- Developed a 5-year strategic plan to provide the resources and physical infrastructure necessary to expand its programs and advance its leadership role. - Invested in outcome management programs to accurately capture the fruits of our labors- Held successful special events in which the Clubhouse earned revenue, cultivated community support, and the members and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves
Target demographics: people with brain injuries
Direct beneficiaries per year: 277 people (including active and inactive members, their families, and applicants not admitted)
Geographic areas served: Side by Side remains the only community-based provider of long-term support services specifically for people with brain injuries in Georgia.
Programs: Side by Side follows the Clubhouse model of rehabilitation. This model was developed in the 1940s by and for individuals with disabilities to help them support each other, find and keep jobs, and to live in their communities instead of institutions. This model has been standardized by an international body, IBICA, of which Side by Side is a member. At our Clubhouse, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am -2:30 pm, members follow a workday schedule. In the mornings, they volunteer for duties which facilitate the operations of their organization. These duties include clerical work, maintenance tasks, and culinary responsibilities. In the afternoon, they voluntarily attend programs with topics such as job readiness, personal adjustment, yoga, and computer basics. In addition to the workday schedule, social outings and recreational activities are planned and executed by the members.
