Mission: Simply Smiles builds villages of foster homes where children are raised by families and in strong intentional communities. Simply Smiles currently operates two Children’s Villages in Oaxaca, Mexico and on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.
Results: Founded in 2003, the organization serves indigenous (Native) children and their communities in Oaxaca, Mexico and on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation in South Dakota. Simply Smiles programs have served more than 10,000 individuals. The organization raised $7.5 million in the past five years and is supported by 3,000 volunteers and 9 staff persons (with an additional 9 employees in Mexico). While the organization’s focus is on providing innovate and desperately needed foster care programs (a need exasperated by the COVID-19 pandemic), historical achievements include:- Building 2 group homes for children in Mexico - The provision of over 5 million meals - Large scale medical interventions that eliminated parasitic infection for over 3,000 individuals- Granting six full-ride Simply Smiles College Scholarships - Building 37 single family homes- Building 3 schools in Mexico- Construction of the Sam D. Horse Community Center in La Plant, SD Current, the primary focus for the organization is the the construction and management Simply Smiles Children’s Villages in Oaxaca, Mexico and on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, South Dakota (the only Indian Child Welfare Act compliant foster care agency in South Dakota)Simply Smiles Children’s Villages provide food, shelter, healthcare, safety, education, and a sense of cultural belonging that positions a child to fulfill their potential, meet their dreams, and become a difference maker.

Programs: Simply Smiles currently operates two Children’s Villages in Oaxaca, Mexico and on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. At Simply Smiles Children’s Villages, children live with loving parents and receive individualized, culturally specific, trauma-informed care that honors connection to biological family and allows children to heal and thrive. Simply Smiles recognizes the strength that is born from overcoming adversity, and it nurtures children to become adults who are driven and prepared to fulfill their dreams and to help better society—for us all.
