I am using these expansion files to store manuals and related print material for my stereo equipment.

The Smead Cloth Expanding File works pretty much as expected. It is advertised to expand to 2 inches which is about right. The snap closure on the one that I received is a little finicky but it does close. I like the letter size. It says that it is navy but looks more steel grey and I'm a-okay with that. The only thing that kept it from being a 5-star is the odor that took awhile to go away. Otherwise, it is pretty good.

During this pandemic I lost my job meaning that I had to look for a new one. I didn't really have anywhere to keep my resume and other important files when I went to interviews. I used to have one of those plastic folders but it didn't really fit well with my suit, so I had to get one that looks better and this one does it.It's rigid enough to keep my papers straight and looks fancy enough to look good when I'm carrying it into an interview

This dark navy blue letter size file pouch opens to an expanse of 2 inches. Envelope style snap closure. Black interior. Soft felt exterior attracts hair and lint but otherwise very handsome and sturdy for everyday use.

I needed something that could hold papers and not crinkle them, but didn't take up a ton of space in my travel bag. I only need it for a few sheets of paper at a time, so I'm not hauling huge sheaths of paper around, but it suits my needs. It has a snap closure, has a nice cloth exterior that I've wiped off with a towel when it starts looking dusty. I've not used a damp cloth, for the most part it lives in my bag or in a letter holder on my desk, so there's not a lot of handling involved, and I haven't spilled anything on it yet. It does stretch a bit more at the opening than at the base, but that's helpful when it comes to paper clips and staples. I like it, keeps my papers nice and flat when I'm traveling, even when the kid next to me on the plane keeps kicking my bag.

This is a nice sort of flannel- or felted-look portfolio, though I think it is nonwoven fabric. It has a stiff inner layer and generally looks nice. The sides are not done as well as they might have been, though.Problems:1. This opens to 2 inches at the top, but it's a V from the bottom, so you can't store a 2-inch stack of papers here. maybe about half an inch.2. The fabric pieces at the sides (maybe woven nylon) don't go all the way down to the bottom. So there are some sizeable holes on either side. So you can't store smaller things like a handy pen.So this is a handy thing, but not as great as it could have been.

I got this for my daughter who is in law school. I thought it would be a professional looking item for her compared to a paper type folder. Does far though she hasn't really found a need for it, so I may have to figure out some other use for it. It is pretty, but only really hold thin things. It might be nice for organizing items on your desk so your work space looks nice, or for keeping recipes, ticket stubs, clippings or some type of momentos that you want on hand, but still contained.

I chose this folder because I really liked the idea and look of it and hoped it would be a great way to hold my laptop, notebook, and pen in an organized way rather than fumbling with things as I walk between meetings. I really like the style/texture of this item to be a little classier and stylish than plastic or fabric similar items. Something that I also like is that the folder is very sturdy, so it feels like it will last and protects what's inside. One thing that made this folder less practical for use is that it doesn't exactly stretch, making the size and what you could actually fit inside of it less than what's expected. For example, my laptop is 13inx9inx1in so while it fits inside with plenty of room at the top (since it's a 2in opening), I cannot close the snap with my laptop inside since the bottom and top of the folder do not have much give. It's tough because while I liked the sturdiness of the product, it definitely limits its size and I cannot use it for my laptop. It would probably be better suited for a tablet or a much smaller laptop.Another problem I ran into once using this is that there are holes in the bottom corner. Therefore, you can't really keep a pen or other small items inside, or else they may fall out. While I understand this design was probably to help with the expansion aspect, it is another thing that limits me from using as I expected.Overall, a nice product and very stylish. However, some design issues limit the size and usability. I will probably keep this around for something like a folio, but it will not get as much use as I hoped for.

I always need something like this to carry around for keep important papers. It's not as large as I expected but still have enough space for about 20 sheet, maybe more. it made with good quality material and promising to last for years. Not really fancy but good enough for common tasks.

I liked this! I got mine in black. The felt outside looked so nice (hope it won't end up attracting white cat hairs!). This looks so professional -- not like most such file holders that look like something a high-schooler would use. This can carry your files and keep them together attractively. I like that it has a fiber on the outside and isn't plain card stock, plastic or leatherette. This expands to 2 although I haven't filled it that full yet. I think a tablet or phone could also fit inside with your files (for compactness). Smead is an older company that has stood the test of time and proven its quality. Overall pleased with this!Cons: none

This is not what I expected. When described as expanding 2 I thought the whole folio would expand from top to bottom. It does not. It only expands at the top, which means you really can't put 2 worth of papers in it. I got it to store the small white erase board and ten square paddle used in my grandpa's kindergarten class during off site learning at the beginning of the school year. The paddle and board are both less than the size of an 8x11 1/2 piece of paper, neither more than an inch thick. I was hard pressed to snap it closed. This might be good to impress at a meeting with a small report in it, but it is a very pricy folio. It is made well, the felt is thick, time will tell how long the snap will last. It would have been perfect if it expanded more at the bottom.

I have a set of artwork that I wanted to combine and keep safe. This file is of soft, yet sturdy cloth and actually holds quite a lot of papers. It seems very durable, will keep my artwork protected.

This holds a decent amount (several legal pads of paper, smaller pads, phone, charger, pens). It snaps in the front with a single snap and stays closed. However, it is possible if you shake this upside down that items will fall out. It's not 100 secure, so keep that in mind if you want to carry small items (pens, loose change, etc). If just looking to carry pads of paper, etc. then it serves its purpose well.

Wish it was better quality. Overall, it still worked for what I needed it to do, but its really just a felt cover with cardboard inside. I was hoping it would be better quality, but I guess cardboard is just cheaper and more lightweight. The felt flakes off and part of it kinda got dirty by just leaving it on the table. Catches dust super easily. A pocket would also be nice because its not always the best idea to put your pens in the folder with your paper and books. Doesn't seem very durable either.OVERALL:-not worth the price-cardboard with felt covering-wish it had some sort of pocket or divider.

This is such a nice stylish way to carry folders, paperwork, or schoolwork. I love the look of it, and it's super durable. It fits nicely into my office tote bag, and I even used it to carry my lightweight laptop a couple of times. It's a beautiful gray fabric that feels very much like wool felt.

This is a really nice, thick folder. I got it to use as a more durable folder for my school/work bag, but then I found how perfectly it fits my laptop! This is a great (though not entirely protective) sleeve for a laptop and takes up no space in my bag. I've already bought a couple more!

I really like this folder. I needed a folder for carrying (by hand/backpack) paperwork back and forth with me and this works perfectly. I have only ever used paper folders which start falling apart pretty quickly when you stick them in a backpack and run around town.I really like the wooly texture and grey coloring. I think this folder looks very professional. It is sturdy enough to protect paperwork sufficiently if you don't stuff it too full. It's advertised as being able to expand by two inches but, personally, I wouldn't stuff it quite that full.My only complaint with this file folder is that there are holes at the bottom of either side of the folder that can allow small objects to fall out, such as a pen that fell to the bottom of the folder. I hang my pen on the edge of the folder and haven't had any issues yet, but it does make me worry that I will lose something important by accident sometime, and who wants to worry about that.Overall, I am very happy to have this folder and it has made transporting paperwork much easier for me.

This expanding file is just the ticket to take a few items to a meeting, an interview, or any other business setting and look like a real professional. I could see myself using this for those special occasions when you want to impress with your look or any meeting when you don't want to lug your whole backpack or laptop bag to a meetingI wasn't sure how firm/stiff this expanding file would be. Turns out it is very firm/stiff, which is very much what I was hoping it would be. It will protect the contents nicely and maintain that sharply pressed look. The quality of this expanding file is very good. The stitching is flawless, the snap works perfectly, and the expanding gussets on the sides are made of fabric that will last forever. The sewn-in Smead logo tag is a nice touch, though I would have liked the Smead logo on the tag, too.My biggest concern about this expanding file, now that I love it, is that it will pick up oil from my hands over time and start looking shabby before it wears out. I guess I'll make sure that I have clean hands when I am using it.The price of this expanding file is good, but not great. A few bucks cheaper and I would have given this item 5 stars. At this price, I'd say it's a 4-star value.

This expanding file folder is trendy and professional while simple and elegant. It has a gray wool type exterior cloth with a smooth black cloth interior featuring a snap closure. The folder is approximately 13“ x 10“ and claims to allow a 2 inch expandable depth for substantial storage and organization. Unfortunately, I have not found that 2 inch expandable depth to be an accurate representation of what the folder's actual performance. The folder has a hard front and back surface to help protect paperwork from bending or folding in any way. The company that makes this product is a woman owned company (which is important to me) that focuses on high-quality and environmentally responsible products, all of which are important features. Unfortunately, one of the biggest downfalls I found with this product, outside of the rather irritating rough feel of the wool like exterior, is the holes in the bottom corners of the folder which allow easily for any small objects like pens, pencils, or paper clips to fall out.Overall, for short term use, this folder is very professional looking and would be very aesthetically pleasing in a business environment. I would however, resort to some of my tested and true favorite expandable folders for long-term use and use this as more of a meeting only showpiece.

My husband sings in plays and with a chorale. He's accumulated enough sheet music to fill a huge binder. Rather than carrying the entire binder of music, he mentioned he was looking for something smaller to hold just that which is event specific. I ordered this smaller, elegant looking, expanding file on first sight, thinking it could work perfectly. From Smead, it's 10 by 13 inches and looked thin until I realized it can expand up to 2 inches. The outside is a gray wool-like material with stitching, a high end look.Inside is lined with a black, smooth feeling material. It secures closed with a tightly snapping button closure. He's thrilled with the smaller, classier looking file. I think it suits both my refined man and his music very well.
