Mission: The mission of the Somerville Homeless Coalition is to provide vulnerable individuals and families with personalized supportive services and tailored housing solutions. We are committed to treating people with dignity and respect, always with the understanding that they are part of our community.
Target demographics: those facing homelessness, eviction, and food insecurity
Programs: Housing services:case management; permanent supportive housing; homeless prevention and re-housing; rental assistance; supportive services. Directly sub-leased 41 scattered-site apartment to formerly homeless and disabled individuals and families-included deep housing subsidy, furniture and furnishings, utility assistance; and support services. Assisted in administering 8 shelter-plus-care rental assistance vouchers, including the provision of support services. Provided home-based supportive services to a total of 110 households consisting of 160 people. Provided case management and housing search benefitting 131 households consisting of 237 people, including 64 children. 70 people moved into permanent housing. Prevented 218 people from falling into homelessness, consisting of 77 households and 86 children. Rapidly re-housed a total of 6 individuals and 3 families.
adult shelter:operated 16 bed adult emergency homeless shelter; provided over 5,500 shelter bed nights; sheltered 71 individuals; 28 individuals moved into permanent housing.
family shelter: operated 5 unit family emergency homeless shelter; provided 5,000 shelter bed nights; sheltered 16 families consisting of 32 children; 5 family households moved into apartment housing.
project soup:operated two emergency food pantries; served weekly community meals; delivered groceries to the disabled and homebound on a monthly basisserviced unduplicated 1,425 people, consisting of 623 households and 235 families with 466 children. Distributed 5,251 bags of food; responded to 1,949 visits; provided 160 deliveries of groceries to the homebound; served 740 community meals.
