Mission: The sonshine soup kitchen is an interfaith community project reaching out to persons who are sruggling to live independently. We do this primarily by serving a free meal in a spiritually uplifting atmosphere to any person who enters our facility.

Programs: A natural, but indirect, outcome of volunteer-based meal program is the platform that is provided to the community for service opportunities. This is an indirect, but important service to the community that is made posible by the sonshine soup kitchen. Service opportunities are provided to persons who have service requirements and also to those who wish to fulfill altruistic tendencies. In return a large labor expense is minimized for the soup kitchen. Approximately, 2,759 volunteers were used in 2017 resulting in 8,277 hours being served. At a minimum wage calculation, with taxes included, this labor saved the soup kitchen $60,008.

the sonshine soup kitchen serviced 7,339 persons in the 249 days we served meals in 2017.228 of these were children, 1,251 were adults, and 5,860 were senior adults. 11,321 meals were served with dignity by volunteer workers. Included in the expenses cited above, donated food valued at approximately $50,073 was used in our meal program. Our menus were greatly enhanced by a grant used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables enabling our guests the choice of healthy food items to consume and take home. As an additional service, free clothing is available to the community. 600 persons made use of clothing offered. Beyond the stated expense, a significant amount of volunteer labor and services were employed to ensure the success and continuity of the program.
