Mission: Special Olympics Rhode Island provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. The Special Olympics Rhode Island program provides over 1,600 year-round sports training and athletic competitions for more than 4,000 athletes and hosts over 40 local, regional, and statewide tournaments and competitions each year in 21 official and demonstration sports. (Less)
